Overview

The inaugural Momus Emerging Critics Residency will tackle relevant issues facing art criticism today, with a focus on publishing in the digital age. It will address the professional realities, requirements, and skills required to navigate the field, bridging knowledge and training gaps present in traditional arts education. By the end of their residency, participants will have the knowledge to navigate freelance work and gain relevance without foregoing critical thinking and integrity of voice.

Workshop leaders will engage in the most recent and relevant debates in art criticism, bringing residents into conversation about the most relevant challenges and most rewarding subjects in contemporary art discourse. Residents will develop understanding and skills related to  both online and print publishing in the arts. They will also gain access to Momus’s editorial staff, founding publisher, contributing editors, and critics.

Program

The residency will take place in Montreal and run for one intensive week in the classroom and through one-on-one mentorship.
